Caroline Flint MP, Labour’s Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary, commenting on the Government’s further proposed cuts to the Feed-in Tariff for solar power, after securing an Urgent Question and dragging Climate Change Minister Gregory Barker to the Commons to defend his proposals, said:
“Over eighty percent of the public told this Government that their cuts to solar power went too far and too fast. But this Government is so out of touch that it has decided to impose even deeper cuts. Their plans will hit families trying to protect themselves from soaring energy bills and do the right thing by the environment. Thousands of jobs and businesses in the solar industry have already been put at risk, and industry has been crying out for certainty. But the only certainty this Government offers is certain job losses.
“Ed Davey has flunked the opportunity to use his appointment to change course. There might be a new Secretary of State, but it’s the same old story: chaos and incompetence from the Department for Energy and Climate Change; broken promises on the environment; and Liberal Democrats propping up a Tory-led Government doing the wrong thing for the economy and the wrong thing for the future of Britain.”
