Chuka Umunna MP, Labour’s Shadow Business Secretary, commenting on reports of David Davis’ interview with Prospect magazine, said:
“Even leading Conservatives like David Davis now realise that their leader is desperately out of touch and is too close to powerful vested interests - from the banks to the media moguls - to stand up for working people.
“Ed Miliband has led the debate on the need for a more responsible capitalism and has set out the action Labour would take to tackle the cost of living crisis facing families across the country. We've had a lot of rhetoric but little action from David Cameron – and now he’s being called out by one of his most senior and respected MPs.
“We need a more responsible and productive capitalism which better serves businesses, the economy and society at large. Labour has set the agenda in calling for Government to use the different policy levers available to it in an active, intelligent way to support the best of British business. Even Conservatives are now breaking ranks to point out how hollow David Cameron’s rhetoric has become.”
