Iain Wright MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Competitiveness and Enterprise, commenting on the CBI’s quarterly Industrial Trends Survey published today, said:
“It is deeply concerning that confidence among UK manufacturers has fallen again for a third successive quarter, with a drop in domestic orders. The manufacturing sector is crucial if we are going to see growth return, but with expectations plummeting there is great uncertainty for the sector and the thousands of people employed in manufacturing up and down the country.
“Ministers are letting down our country’s producers. On top of today’s GDP figures and the fall in manufacturing output on the previous quarter, this survey underlines the Government’s failure to adopt a plan for growth to help businesses drive recovery. Labour’s five point plan would boost the economy now and help firms create jobs, through bringing forward major investment projects and by providing tax breaks to small firms taking on extra workers.”
