Stringent conditions must be met on shale gas fracturing - Greatrex

17 April 2012

Tom GreatrexTom Greatrex MP, Labour's Shadow Energy Minister, commenting on the publication of an independent report on shale gas fracturing for the Department for Energy and Climate Change, said:

"Only by fully addressing the real environmental and safety concerns, backed up by rigorous analysis and evidence, will people have confidence that the exploration and possible production of shale gas is a safe and reliable source that can meet some of the UK’s energy needs.

"Labour has set out six stringent conditions which must be met before any decision to recommence fracking in the UK is taken. Ministers should take heed of our proposals and this report and put in place a robust regulatory regime."
