Liam Byrne MP, Labour’s Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, responding to Bob Holman’s comments today, said:
"You often tell someone’s character by the way they react under pressure, and under pressure Iain Duncan Smith has abandoned every lesson he learned at Easterhouse.
"Once upon a time he told us of his great admiration for Bob Holman’s work and that government had a moral obligation to help people escape poverty but now he simply washes his hands.
"What Bob Holman has made clear today is that Compassionate Conservatism is not only dead but dead and buried for good."
