Chuka Umunna MP, Labour's Shadow Business Secretary, commenting on Insolvency Service statistics released today, showing a significant rise in company liquidations, said:
“At a time when we are looking to the private sector to deliver the jobs and growth we need, instead we have seen the number of company liquidations rise to its highest level in almost two years. Across the country, businesses are suffering the consequences of ministers’ failure to put in place an effective plan for growth.
“We need more people starting, leading and working for businesses, but this significant rise in company liquidations shows how the actions of this out of touch Government have crushed business confidence, held back growth and stalled job creation.
“Labour’s five point plan for jobs and growth would help businesses now, giving tax breaks to small firms taking on extra employees, enacting a temporary VAT cut and bringing forward infrastructure spending to get the economy moving again.”
