Labour's Childcare Commission

ccUnder David Cameron’s out-of-touch Government, families are feeling the squeeze.

There’s a cost of living crisis and families are finding it increasingly difficult to afford decent childcare, and the Tory-led Government is cutting financial support and services that provide vital support to families.

In Government, Labour set up 3,500 Sure Start children's centres, which reached millions of children, with parenting support, childcare for children and job training for adults as well as health care and advice. But under David Cameron, many of these services are being cut back and children’s centres are closing.

We need real change to deliver for parents.

We need a plan to make sure work pays. That means having a tax and benefit system that doesn’t punish mums who decide to work.

It also means having a childcare service that can last. A real, professional service that can help those families that are feeling squeezed.

Labour’s Childcare Commission is looking at all these issues as we set out how we can develop a childcare system fit for the 21st century.
