Labour is the only party serious about tackling homelessness
CAROLINE FLINT MP, Labour's Housing Minister responding to David Cameron's speech on homelessness today, said:
"When the Tories were last in power thousands of families with children lived for long periods in cramped B&Bs; the number of rough sleepers was not even counted and capital spending on housing was halved.
"Under Labour, we have reduced rough sleeping by more than 70%, 90% of families with children in temporary accommodation are in self-contained flats and houses; and we are investing £8billion in the next three years to deliver 180,000 more social and affordable homes.
"Warm words from the Tories on housing are meaningless when they oppose our housebuilding targets at a national level and block affordable housing development at a local level."
