Jim Murphy MP, Labour's Shadow Defence Secretary, responding to the Prime Minister's announcement on the purchase of a C17 aircraft at Prime Minister's Questions today, said:
“We welcome any additional investment in our Forces and transport aircraft are vital for successful operations.
“This announcement is an insufficient response to a report which noted serious capability gaps, including in surveillance, skills and carrier strike.
“Serious questions are being raised about Britain’s ability to respond to an uncertain, threatening and changing security landscape.
“It is a worry the Prime Minister continues to duck the important issues and defends his decisions which have now lost all credibility.”
