Britain must be open for green business - Flint

5 July 2012

Caroline FlintCaroline Flint MP, Labour’s Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary, commenting on the CBI report, The colour of growth: maximising the potential of green business, which found that the low-carbon economy has the potential to add £20 billion extra in annual GDP by 2015, said:

"As the CBI’s report highlights, a new wave of industrial revolution is sweeping the world, but as a result of a recession made in Downing Street Britain is being left in the doldrums. We must get on board or risk missing out on growth, job creation and a revival of Britain's manufacturing sector.

"The transition to a low carbon economy has the potential to be a huge source of jobs and growth for the UK, when we need an economy that works for working people more than ever. But as a direct result of this government's mixed messages and failing policies, the UK is falling behind, meaning that jobs, growth and industry that should be coming to this country are now going overseas.

"Ministers must end the dithering and mixed messages, and get Britain back open for green business."
