Ivan Lewis MP, Labour's Shadow Culture Secretary, responding to the publication of the BBC Delivering Quality First proposals, said:
"The BBC is one of Britain's greatest assets at home and abroad, and we need to ensure everything possible is done to protect the quality of programmes and cutting edge journalism which makes the BBC so special.
"However, in these difficult times the Corporation cannot be immune from tough choices. Having considered the cuts announced today my main concerns are their impact on jobs and growth in our creative industries, the quality of local radio and prospect of compulsory redundancies.
"I also want assurances that savings in senior management costs are making a fair contribution to the overall cuts package. Labour will listen to viewers, listeners and staff as we consider our response to the BBC Trust's consultation."
