Creating Sustainable Communities policy commission
Introduction:
The Creating Sustainable Communities policy commission develops Labour’s policy direction and thinking in local government, the environment, transport, energy, culture and sport.
It considers current issues ranging from the structure and funding of local government, to the provision of affordable housing, to tackling climate change, to creating an integrated and sustainable transport network and the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The policy commission has two main roles. As part of the policy development process, the commission engages with local Labour parties, Labour’s affiliates and local communities in producing consultation and policy documents. The other main role is to discuss current issues, the work of government, and submissions from the public and to feed back to party members and affiliates.
Membership:
Members of the policy commission are drawn from the National Executive of the Labour Party, Labour’s National Policy Forum and Government.
